Sustainability

Pioneering Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality in Namibia

Since our founding in 1995, our commitment to nature conservation has come a long way. We understand that when nature thrives, so do our Namibian communities. Our lodges and their activities are designed to minimise environmental footprint and safeguard natural resources, all the while showcasing the diverse beauty of Namibian ecosystems and providing guests with experiences nothing short of heartfelt and enriching.

Journey with us as we commit to conservation and community upliftment through sustainable tourism and hospitality ventures, nourishing Namibia one story at a time.

Our Story

Gondwana’s Sustainability Roots Run Deep

At the heart of Gondwana Collection Namibia's operations lies a deep commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment. Since our inception in 1995, we have been on a mission to redefine the hospitality industry's relationship with the natural world. By converting several farms into nature reserves near iconic Namibian landscapes, we have not only preserved the country's precious biodiversity, but also reintroduced indigenous wildlife species that previously thrived in these areas.

Our eco-friendly tourism and hospitality ventures finance these vital conservation efforts, creating a sustainable cycle that benefits both the environment and the local communities.

Our sustainability initiatives extend far beyond land management. Across our properties, we have implemented robust energy management, water efficiency, waste management and other sustainable practices to minimise our carbon footprint. These measures are complemented by our unwavering commitment to uplifting and empowering the communities in which we operate, providing meaningful employment opportunities and investing in local development projects.

Through this holistic approach to sustainability, Gondwana Collection Namibia has pioneered a new model of tourism and hospitality that seamlessly integrates nature, people, and guest experiences. As we continue to grow, we remain steadfast in our vision to be a driving force for positive change, inspiring others to follow in our footsteps and create a more sustainable future for Namibia.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the SDGs are intended to be achieved by 2030 and address global challenges related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.

Stewardship of Namibia’s Water Resources

90% Lodges equipped with wastewater treatment plants

In line with our Sustainability philosophy, we are committed to implementing water-wise initiatives at our properties. We have to-date equipped 90% of our lodges with wastewater treatment plants, where treated water is cleaned and safely re-used in lodge gardens. Across our lodges, rooms are fitted with water-efficient devices, and we utilize water-saving appliances throughout lodge kitchens and laundries. We promote water-saving amongst staff and guests through staff training, and through additional awareness signage and gentle reminders to use water wisely, so that we can make every drop count.
