Follow the 4x4 //Garas self-drive route to encounter plains animals, or savour the sunset from the nearby hilltop or on a sunset drive. Here, away from the bustle of the world, you'll find a gentle rhythm of peace that reaffirms life's beauty.

If relaxation is on your agenda, unwind by the poolside. Thirty thatch-and-stone chalets scattered among the granite boulders provide an intimate home base for exploring the landscape. Lose yourself in a book on the terrace, attuned to the ancient rhythms of the land.

Activities

Morning/Afternoon Canyon Drive (guided)

Especially for guests who want a break from the wheel or those on a fly-in safari. You are taken to the two major lookout points along the Fish River Canyon. Our guide will tell you all about the canyon's fascinating geology. Refreshments, a light snack and all park entry fees are included. AM Departure: ± 08:00 AM at Canyon Lodge (Guests must arrange their own transport to Canyon Lodge.) PM Departure: ± 16:00 PM at Canyon Lodge (Guests must arrange their own transport to Canyon Lodge.) Duration: ± 3 hours

Sunset Nature Drive in Gondwana Canyon Park (guided)

The 3 hour drive is the perfect opportunity for you to acquaint yourself with the geology, flora and fauna of the Gondwana Canyon Park. Refreshments and light snacks included. This tour does not include the Fish River Canyon. Departure: ± 3 hours before sunset at Canyon Lodge Duration: ± 3 hours

Sunrise Hike (guided)

We drive you to a spot with a grand view where you can enjoy coffee or tea and rusks while watching the sunrise against the unique backdrop of Gondwana Canyon Park. This is followed by a walk of about one hour back to the lodge. This tour does not include the Fish River Canyon. Departure: ± 30 minutes before sunrise at Canyon Lodge Duration: ± 3 hours

Morning Walk (semi-guided)

This hike takes you right into Gondwana Canyon Park. You are accompanied by a guide who will gladly share his knowledge about the fascinating desert landscape around the canyon. A bottle of water is included. This tour does not go the Fish River Canyon. Departure: ± 7:30 AM at Canyon Lodge Duration: ± 3 hours

Sunset Walk (escorted)

All guests are invited to wrap up the day with a short excursion to our very own ‘local’ mountain. Have a drink and watch the sun go down. Refreshments will be charged on the room. Duration: ± 1 hour

Hiking trail from the Village to the Lodge (self-guided)

A hiking trail takes you from Canyon Village up to a mountain plateau. Enjoy a breath-taking view of the vast plains adjacent to the canyon. At ‘Archway Rock’ you start to make your way back into the plain and to the lodge. Duration: ± 2 - 3 hours

Night Walk (guided)

Prepare to be amazed by the sight of nocturnal desert creatures on a short, guided night walk (±45 min) after dinner. No refreshments or snacks offered. May only be booked directly at the lodge. Departure: after dinner at Canyon Lodge Duration: ± 45 minutes

4x4 //Garas Self-Drive (unguided)

This self-drive takes you on marked roads through the Gondwana Canyon Park. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and look out for the many wild animals that call this nature park home. A trail map is provided. Please ensure to leave the Gondwana Canyon Park before sunset. Departure: from sunrise Distance: 47 km
